Romi Bean - Pom Pom Girl Denver Broncos - Cheerleader
A cheerleader (false anglicism) or cheerleader (North America) is a young girl providing a show based on singing, dance and acrobatics during sporting events and championships specific. Pom-pom
is an English word "pompon." Cheerleader can be translated as "cheerleader." In Quebec, the official recommendation of the OLF is "cheerleader" and this term usually is meant in the media, and more and more often in everyday language. The term is also used by French Canadian.
If the French expression cheerleader corresponds to a young girl, the cheerleader English name is also said to a boy this role. Even if today the U.S. is estimated at 97% the proportion of women among the cheerleaders, it was not always the case. In the late nineteenth century, the leaders of applause were exclusively for boys and only in 1920s, girls began to play a role. By the 1940s, this activity had become largely female. It is now a sport in itself.
With 1.5 million cheerleaders in the only U.S. division All-Star and not counting the millions of other divisions in specific schools in the country, this activity has become over the years a key link in the culture and American sports. With its growing popularity, the sport extends internationally with an estimated 100 000 pom-pom girls present in other countries like Germany, Australia, China, Colombia, France, Japan, New Zealand or the Netherlands.
